Congratulations! Promoting from C Class to B Class in iRacing is a huge step. This iRacing B Class Guide is designed to help you adapt (perhaps after using our iRacing Fast Track Promotion guide). You’ve unlocked new series, but B Class is the game’s way of telling you, “We’re getting serious now.” To adapt, you’ll need to let go of some old habits.
First of all, as strange as it sounds, we recommend pausing your racing for a while.
But why? Let’s break down what changes in B Class and what you need to do, step by step.
What Awaits You in B Class? (Why You Shouldn’t Race Immediately)
After achieving your B license, some of the assists and comfort zones the game provided in the lower license classes are completely disabled. Here are the fundamental changes you’ll face:
1. The Driver Profile Gets Serious
You will now face drivers who will seriously defend their position during overtakes. In the lower series, many drivers avoid overly aggressive racing to protect their Safety Rating (SR), a topic we covered in detail in our (What is iRacing Safety Rating (SR) and How to Increase It? A Comprehensive Guide).
But in B Class, you’ll find drivers who are no longer worried about their SR and are focused purely on winning. Your races will be much more compact, aggressive, and serious.
2. iRacing’s Assist Systems are Disabled
The biggest support system the game offers is gone. The Racing Line, in particular, along with many other assists, is no longer available in most of these series. You will have to completely memorize where to brake and where to accelerate.

3. New Cars, New Challenges
If you plan to race in B Class, it probably means it’s time to change cars (e.g., GT3, LMP2, F3). Because your car will change, you’ll inevitably return to your “spinning days” for a while due to the unfamiliar dynamics. Your adjustment period may take some time.
Your iRacing B Class Guide: A Step-by-Step Adaptation Process
Here is the roadmap we’ve prepared for you to adapt to this new and challenging level in the healthiest way possible.
Step 1: Appreciate Your Effort and Make a Decision
First, be sure to appreciate yourself, your patience, and your hard work. Promoting to B Class is a significant achievement.
Now it’s time to make your first decision: Decide on the series you want to race in. Our recommendation is to specialize in only one series and only one car at first.
Step 2: Choose Your Car (Without Panicking)
After deciding on a series, the next choice is your car. Don’t panic about “Which car is fastest?” or “What’s the meta car?” To start, just pick a car you enjoy—one whose sound or appearance you like—and sit back.
Step 3: The Golden Rule – Do Not Race Immediately!
You’ve decided on the series and bought your car. Now what?
Absolutely, positively do not join an Official Race!
First, go into Test Drive mode and select your car. (Alternatively, you can opt for the Time Trial mode, where you can both practice and gain SR, as mentioned in our iRacing: How to Easily Complete Your MPR with Time Trials] guide.) Check the schedule for your chosen series to see which track is being raced next week, and select that track in the Test Drive area.
Step 4: Welcome to the Test Drive Marathon
You have about a week to practice with this car and track combination. Use this time wisely:
- Focus on getting used to the car. Log as many laps as possible.
- Don’t worry about your lap times or how slow you are.
- Just focus on driving cleanly.
- Keep lapping until you can consistently avoid off-tracks, spins, or crashes.
Step 5: I’m Used to the Car, What Now?
If you’re feeling confident, you might think you’re ready to race, but there’s one critical point you’ve forgotten: Braking points.
The racing line is not available in B Class and higher series. Therefore, you won’t see the racing line you might have used in practice mode (if you had it enabled) during the actual race.
You will have to memorize where to brake and where to accelerate by using reference points on the track (signs, bridges, lines at the edge of the track). The built-in iRacing line is not sufficient.
Step 6: Watch Tutorial Videos to Get Faster
For faster lap times, be sure to watch “Track Guide” or “Hotlap” videos on YouTube using the combination of “[Your Car's Name] + [Track Name]” (e.g., Ferrari 296 GT3 Spa) before your race.
These videos will help you learn the optimal braking points and ideal racing lines that you might not see on your own. After enough practice, you will be ready for your first clean and competitive race in B Class.
